Last year, approximately 46% of all fatal crashes involved alcohol.  131 individuals lost their lives in impaired driving crashes.

Officers often watch how a driver approaches a checkpoint.  If their driving is erratic or is not smooth, or if they turn off on a side road before reaching the checkpoint, those actions may be an indication of impairment.

The Office of Highway Safety recently purchased 159 Portable Breath Tester's (PBT's) for state and local law enforcement agencies to use in detecting impaired drivers.

Every year, Delaware's Mothers Against Drunk Driving chapter holds an awards ceremony to recognize officers who make the most DUI arrests in an effort to make our roads safer.
